About UsPast
Back in 1996, I (Robert Lauer) was in a band called "Last Call". I left the band due to some differences in opinions with me and a few of the other band members. Just after leaving Last Call, I got a 4 Track recorder, and started writing and recording my own songs. These mostly consisted of a few acoustic guitar tracks, a bass track, and a very bad vocal track. Then I got a Drum Machine and started playing around with that. One day, I was talking to a friend of mine named Johnny, and I mentioned the Dream Theater album, "Images And Words". He thought I said "Distant Words" and asked me what the hell I was talking about. I really liked the name "Distant Words" so I decided to start using that as my "Band" name. I'm not a big fan of the "idea" to use an individual's name as a "Band" name. After all, it takes more than one to form a "Band". And thus, "Distant Words" was born. Present
Around the summer of 2002, I got into PC Based recording, and my wife Tricia started doing vocals for my songs. We tried for several months to get an actual "Band" together, but with no success. So, we just kept with what we were doing, and made the best of the situation. I used the time to try and better my playing, writing AND recording skills. I'm no expert, but I think I've done pretty good considering... We've had many setbacks, but we are still planning on continuing our work together. In the meantime, I have started a few other "Projects" myself. Damaged Goods, which is some of my "Harder" songs with me on vocals and Damaged Words which is the Distant Words songs with me on vocals. FutureThe future for Distant Words is still pretty unclear. But, what will most likely happen is that Distant Words will remain a "Project" between me and my wife, and nothing more. A Project that we will work on when ever we have the time. I myself fully plan to try and form an actual "Band" at some point. This new band may or may not have some or all of the songs I've written and offered on this site. I really don't mind starting from scratch if it comes to that. However, one thing that is for absolute sure is that any band I join/form will NOT be called Distant Words. As far as I'm concerned, Distant Words does NOT exist without my wife. So, if you are a musician from the Sacramento area and would like to get together with me and write some music and maybe form a band, feel free to drop me a line.
